HOW THEY STACK UP

-

The Fab Four has turned into a two-way battle between Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray in recent times as Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal have struggled with injuries. As the tennis bandwagon reaches New York, Murray looks in a good position to upstage the World No 1 and win his fourth major. Djokovic’s recent struggles has raised many a player’s hopes, including Murray.

THE MURRAY-DJOKOVIC RIVALRY

Djokovic and Murray clashed in two major finals this season, the Serb winning both in Melbourne and Paris — his Roland Garros win completing his career Grand Slam.

The rivalry took a turn in favour of Djokovic after the 2013 Wimbledon final with the Serb winning 13 of their last 15 clashes. Djokovic leads in overall headto-head and finals meeting between the two.

ANDY ON A HIGH

The last two months have gone like a dream for the Scot. Since losing the French Open final to Djokovic in June, Murray has won Queen’s Club, a second Wimbledon title and successfully defended his Olympic crown in Rio de Janeiro.

Though his career-best 22-match win streak came to an end at the hands of Marin Cilic in the Cincinnati final last weekend, that hasn’t dented his confidence that he can claim a second US Open, four years after his breakthrough in New York in 2012 saw him become the first British man in 76 years to win a Grand Slam title.
