INDUS WATERS TREATY NOT IN INTEREST OF J&K: MEHBOOBA
JAMMU: Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Mehbooba Mufti has said the Indus Waters Treaty agreement, while being beneficial to India and Pakistan, is not in the interest of J&K. “However, if the two countries can mutually share the water resources, why not their other resources also?” she said.
In the wake of continued violence in the Valley and a spurt in terror attacks, Mehbooba, during the launch of Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) in Jammu on Wednesday, made a veiled attack on Pakistan, saying that patience should not be tested and our tolerance should not be misconstrued as weakness.
She added, “We have formed the coalition government for the welfare and development of the masses, which can only be achieved if there is peace”.
Mehbooba congratulated PM Narendra Modi for “not falling into trap of waging war with Pakistan despite pressures from various corners after Uri terror attack”. She said, “PM has still left a widow of dialogue open with Pakistan. Even if it does not understand this language of reconciliation, I am afraid such opportunities may not come in the future.” “Our country would have progressed 100 times, if we didn’t have acrimonious relations with Pakistan in last 70 years, which also saw wars and cross-border terror. Our attention and resources to a great extent got wasted while dealing with Pakistan,” she said.
