SYL: After meeting Prez, Khattar now to call on PM
Haryana chief minister (CM) Manohar Lal Khattar on Sunday said he will soon call on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and urge him to ensure construction of the Sutlej-Yamuna Link (SYL) canal at the earliest.
The CM had earlier led an allparty delegation to New Delhi to meet president Pranab Mukherjee in this regard.
Following this, Punab CM0 Parkash Singh Badal also led a delegation to the President and urged him not to accept any advice against the riparian principle for distribution of river water.
The three-decade old controversy on the SYL canal gained prominence recently after the Supreme Court in its advise to the president termed the Punjab Termination of Water Agreement Act, 2004, violative of constitutional provisions.
Addressing a rally at Badli, Khattar announced several development projects, including new railway line from Farukhnagar in Gurgaon to Charkhi Dadri via Jhajjar, a 20-km fourlane road from Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi to KMP expressway via Badhsa, permanent helipad near National Cancer Institute, Badhsa and 5MW power plant in Badhsa and Kaloi villages .
He also announced that the foundation stone of 22 girls’ colleges to be built in the state would be laid on January 22, 2017.
