SRINAGAR: A paramilita­ry trooper was killed on Sunday in accidental firing in Shopian district of Kashmir region, police said. Shyam Yadav, a trooper of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), died in an accidental firing incident inside the district police lines, a senior police officer said.”He was shifted to hospital but doctors could not save his life,” the police officer said. Goa government lines up free internet, talk time for youth PANAJI: In line with the central government’s Digital India initiative, the Goa government on Monday will launch an ambitious scheme, under which it intends to provide limited free talk time and internet data to the youth in the state. “Goa Yuva Sanchar Yojana will be unveiled on Monday. Sri Sarada Math’s 89-yr-old vice-president passes away KOLKATA: Sri Sarada Math and Ramakrishn­a Sarada Mission’s vice-president Pravrajika Viswaprana passed away due to agerelated illness. She was 89-yearold and had held the post since 2013, the Mission said on Sunday. She breathed her last at her quarter in Baghbazar Math on Saturday. Hundreds of followers gathered at the Sarada Math on Sunday to pay tributes to Viswaprana after which her body was cremated, the Mission said. CID detains one more in Tagore’s Nobel medal theft KOLKATA: The CID has started combing operation at Bolpur in Birbhum district of West Bengal in connection with its probe into the theft of Rabindrana­th Tagore’s Nobel Prize medal in 2004. India, Russia to ink pact for two Kudankulam units NEW DELHI: India and Russia are likely to sign the General Framework Agreement (GFA) on Kudankulam units 5 and 6 by this month. “Leaders of the two countries (Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian president Vladimir Putin) had set a deadline to sign the agreement for units 5 and 6 by the end of this month,” a top official of Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) said.
