18 witnesses have turned hostile in Hisar dist so far

HISAR: As many as 18 witnesses have turned hostile in various cases, including those of attempt to murder, registered in Hisar following the Jat quota violence that rocked the state in February.

Hisar district attorney (DA) Mal Dev Rangi said in all 52 cases were registered in the district, of which 32 were in Hansi subdivisio­n and 20 in Hisar. Although, all these cases are still under trial at various courts in the district, “18 persons have turned hostile so far”, he said.

detailed report and submit it to the deputy commission­er and director, prosecutio­n. “The report has already been sent to them,” he said.

The report available at the DA office reads that two people turned hostile in a case registered under Sections 395 (dacoity) and 436 (mischief by fire or explosive substance with intent to destroy house) of the Indian Penal Court (IPC). In another case of attempt to murder (Section 307) and mischief by fire, as many as 14 people turned hostile.

Two other witnesses also turned hostile in separate cases, including of rioting and unlawful assembly.

Sources said after the superinten­dent of police (SP) wrote to investigat­ion officers (IO), the latter started talking to witnesses, asking them if they required security.

"After getting directions from the additional chief secretary, home, I have directed the investigat­ion officers concerned to ask the witnesses if they require police security. No one came forward so far,” said SP Ranjendra Kumar Meena.
