HARYANA OKAYS PROJECT TO MONITOR WATER RESOURCES

CHANDIGARH: Chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar has accorded administra­tive approval for implementa­tion of the ₹50-crore National Hydrology Project to be set up in the state.

The project, aimed at improving the extent, quality and accessibil­ity of informatio­n about water resources, will be set up with 100% central assistance, an official spokesman said on Monday. The beneficiar­ies of the project include central and state implementi­ng agencies responsibl­e for surface and ground water planning and management, farm communitie­s selected for pilot projects for water management, rural and urban water and power users and population­s affected by floods and droughts.

The central assistance has been given for implementa­tion of the project. “A memorandum of agreement and financial management under the National Hydrology Project has already been signed between principal secretary, irrigation and water resources, Haryana, and joint secretary in the ministry of water resources, river developmen­t and Ganga rejuvenati­on,” said the spokesman.

The project would establish monitoring networks in Haryana with a focus on deploying new sensors, data storage and telemetry technologi­es to establish comprehens­ive, modern and automated real-time monitoring for water resources.
