A 43-year-old man, a non-resident Indian (NRI), allegedly committed suicide by jumping from his 14th floor apartment in an upscale DLF Wellington Estate condominium here, police said on Saturday.

Police identified the man as Ricky Rajiv Bahl, who was settled in London. Residents spotted Bahl lying in a pool of blood in the apartment lawns in DLF Phase 5 around 11:30 pm on Friday. They informed the security guards, who alerted the police.

Bahl, a businessman who had come to Gurgaon from London a few days ago, was rushed to a private hospital where he was declared brought dead, police said.

Police recovered a suicide note in which the deceased thanked his mother and regretted that he would ‘never meet

her again’.

“Mom, I love you. I am sorry, I can never meet you,” read the suicide note according to the police.

Police said Bahl, who lived in flat number 143 in the condominium, was in Gurgaon for some property deal and had met lawyers in this regard on Friday afternoon. Bahl, they said, was unmarried and was living alone in the flat at the time of incident.

Though police was yet to reach any conclusion, they said it seemed Bahlwas upset over some personal issue. The victim, they said, fell from the balcony.

“We will procure CCTV footages for investigation purposes,” assistant sub inspector, Rajesh Yadav, said. Yadav is also the investigating officer in the case.

Police said that they have contacted a relative of the deceased and will follow post-mortem formalities after he comes. A report has been lodged regarding the incident in police records at Sushant Lok police station.

The incident is a stark reminder of a similar incident when a top executive of Encyclopedia Britannica allegedly committed suicide by jumping from the 19th floor of a building in DLF Phase 3 on May 16, 2016.

The deceased Vineet Whig, the chief operating officer of the South Asia division of the firm, was found dead by cleaning staff inside a shaft which opened close to his 19th floor apartment at the building.
