-

SHIMLA: Anticipating fresh snowfall, Shimla administration is scattering salt to melt ice on roads leading to hospitals in the state capital town.

The administration claimed to have prepared for next bout of snow, predicted by Met department in next 24 to 48 hours.

Meanwhile anticipating fresh snow, tourists made a beeline for Shimla, Kufri and Narkanda anticipating snow.

In the evening, Narkanda received snowflakes.

Meanwhile, workers engaged by the administration have been asked to mix salt with the sand and scatter it on icy roads.

“This is the only way to melt the ice in some areas that don’t receive sunlight. The road leading to IGMC from Sanjauli is totally shady and icy road causes inconvenience to people,” said Rohan Chand Thakur, Shimla deputy commissioner.

He said this is being done in other areas too where road is still icy and slippery.

Salt has been provided to the public works department and Shimla municipal corporation. Besides this, the administration has also identified spots to place snow-clearing machines.

Amid heavy tourist rush in Shimla and Kufri, the administration on Sunday issued an order to make Sanjauli market road one way. The administration has also directed the officers concerned to keep tabs on fleecing activities.
