Wife meets BSF jawan who posted video about poor food, tells Delhi HC she is satisfied
BSF jawan Tej Bahadur Yadav, who posted videos on social media last month complaining of poor quality of food, is now being served fruits, delicious vegetables and salads in every meal, his wife Sharmila Yadav’s counsel told the Delhi high court on Wednesday.
Sharmila who had recently spent some time with Tej Bahadur at 88th Battalion in Samba after the Delhi high court granted her appeal to meet her husband, returned on Tuesday.
Her counsel told the told the court on Wednesday that Sharmila was satisfied about her husband’s well being and did not want to press further her habeas corpus plea.
“It was amazing to see other troopers coming to him to tell how his video has helped them get good food now. I spent two days with him at the camp. He was served fruits, delicious paneer, vegetables and salad with every meal. I had gone to meet him in June last year at his previous battalion and the food that time was abysmal compared to what they are getting now,” she told HT.
Sharmila said she faced tough days at home when she could not contact Tej Bahadur for several days to know his whereabouts. But the BSF had rubbished her claims, maintaining that the two were in regular touch. She said she gifted Tej Bahadur a new mobile phone and the two can now talk regularly.
“He told me he was tortured at his previous battalion. His bosses there pressurised him to take back complaint. But now, his seniors were helpful here. We want BSF to grant him voluntary retirement so he can come back home..but everything is not in our hand. We will have to go by their procedure,” she said, adding that she was relieved seeing her husband for the time being.
“I will think of everything else later. Right now I just am relieved and happy that he is safe.” Last month, Tej Bahadur’s videos on social media where he had also accused his officers of illegally selling ration to outsiders, triggered a row and embarrassed the BSF and the government.
