Tarn Taran SAD leader held with heroin; 2 others for attack on cop

Police arrested Tarn Taran unit general secretary (SC wing) of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) Balwinder Singh “Kinda” for allegedly smuggling heroin on Wednesday.

He was appointed Akali Dal’s SC wing general secretary by sitting MLA and candidate from Tarn Taran assembly constituen­cy Harmeet Singh Sandhu during a public function two months back, said sources.

Police claimed to have recovered 4gm heroin from his possession. A case has been registered against him at the Chabhal police station.

Inspector Ashis Palsaid: “Balwainder was arrested at a naka following a tip-off.”

SARPANCH AND EX-SARPANCH HELD

Meanwhile, the police booked Akali sarpanch and a former sarpanch for allegedly attacking a head constable on the premises of Chabhal police station.

Varinder Singh, sarpanch of Heeranpur and former sarpanch Ajmer Singh allegedly entered the police station on Wednesday evening and attacked the head constable Dhanwant Singh. As per the medical examinatio­n, it was found that they were in inebriated state.

Both Varinder and Ajmer also allegedly tore the head constable’s uniform. A case has been registered under Sections 353, 186 and 323 and 34 of the Indian penal Code.

However, the accused rejected the allegation­s and said they were booked as part of a conspiracy.
