Thousands of followers of self-styled godman Rampal on Friday thronged the Jat dharna at Jassia village in Rohtak to extend support to the protesters.

ROHTAK :Thousands of followers of self-styled godman Rampal, who is currently in jail, on Friday thronged the ongoing Jat dharna at Jassia village in Rohtak to extend their support to the agitating community.

Rampal has had a history of disputes with Arya Samajis, mostly comprising Jats in Haryana. It was during one of such clashes between the two sects that an Arya Samaji was killed and Rampal was among those booked for his murder. His ashram was pulled down from Rohtak’s Karontha village.

Though Rampal is also a Jat, his supporters, claiming to be from all “36 communities”, reached Jassia with banners accusing the government of injustice.

“The government has been doing injustice to us and now with the Jats. We have been demanding a CBI probe into the case related to our guruji (Rampal) but nothing has happened in the past two years. Wherever the government will do injustice, we will come forward to seek justice,” said Deepak Kumar, one of the supporters of Rampal.

The supporters claimed the decision to extend their sect’s support to the Jat protest was communicated by the godman himself, who is currently lodged in jail.

“The government has adopted the British policy of divide and rule. It wants to make one community stand isolated from the other 35. But to oppose the government’s intentions, all Rampal supporters are standing behind the Jat community,” said a statement released by Rampal’s followers at the dharna spot in Jassia.

The followers also vowed to reach in heavy numbers on February 19 when the All India Jat Aarakshan Sangharsh Samiti (AIJASS) has announced to observe “Balidaan Divas” (martyrdom day) in the memory of those killed during Jat quota stir in February last year.

In Hisar district also, Rampal followers supported the dharna of Jats at Ramayan village.

AIJASS state spokesperson Rambhagat Malik said, “All Jat leaders from Haryana are gathering at Jassia to discuss the future course of action of our agitation.”

“On Thursday evening, followers of Rampal visited our dharna spot and supported us. Rajkumar Solanki, who was manager of Rampal’s Satlok Aashram, assured us that about 10,000 followers of Rampal will join our stir on Sunday,” Malik added.

SATROL KHAP ALSO SUPPORTS STIR

Inder Singh, a member of Satrol Khap, on Friday supported the Jat dharna at Ramayan and said, “We have sent a letter of support earlier also but due to some reason, I was unable to visit the dharna spot. I joined the dharna today.”

Meanwhile, Hisar deputy commissioner (DC) Nikhil Gajraj on Friday chaired a meeting with duty magistrates at district headquarters. The DC directed them to maintain law and order in the district.

The DC said, “We have formed a monitoring committee to keep a strict vigil on internet facility. A large number of youths keep posting messages on social networking sites.”

He added, “If our monitoring committee feels that the internet facility should be banned in Hisar, we will do so.”

Inspector general of police (IGP), Hisar range, OP Singh said, “We have made heavy deployment of paramilitary forces. We have six companies of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), one company of the Rapid Action Force (RAF) and five companies of Haryana Police, including women police personnel, to deal with any untoward situation.”
