Former chief minister Om Prakash Chautala said on Saturday that his Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) will return to power in the next assembly elections in Haryana due in 2019.

Chautala, who is serving 10 years jail term in teachers’ recruitment scam, is on four weeks parole. He reached Kaithal on Saturday to meet party workers, asking them to get ready for a march to dig the Sutlej-Yamuna Link (SYL) canal on February 23.

Attacking the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at the residence of local party leader Ram Pal Majra, Chautala said the BJP should take steps to make the SYL canal a reality, as it is the “lifeline” of Haryana farmers.

Appealing to party workers to work hard and strengthen the party to ensure victory in 2019, Chautala said every section of society is irked by “anti-people policies” of the BJP and is waiting to teach it a lesson in the next election.

“The INLD is the only party in the state that never ignored its dedicated workers and gave due respect to them,” said Chautala. He also slammed turncoats, and said they will never be allowed to return to the party.
