Kuldeep Kaur, 30, a resident of Ajit Nagar here, accused of killing her husband Navneet Singh, 35, was arrested on Sunday. She was booked under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code on March 4. The police produced her before chief judicial magistrate Deepika on Monday and the court sent her to one-day police remand.

The couple, who originally hailed from Bir Khurd village in Mansa district, had been living in a in a rented accommodation at Ajit Nagar for the past few years.

The accused allegedly killed her husband Navneet Singh on Wednesday night with an icepick and kept his body in the kitchen for two days. Navneet Singh and Kuldeep Kaur had fallen in love and they tied the nuptial knot nine years ago.

“The ice-pick is yet to be recovered. The accused will again be produced in the court on Tuesday,” said Barjinder Chattha, a police official.

The woman allegedly killed her husband as she doubted that he had illicit relations with his sister-in-law (elder brother’s wife).

“Whenever I protested against his affair, he would beat me up. He was not even on speaking terms with me,” Kuldeep Kaur told the police.

“On the night of the incident, he assaulted me and tried to kill me with an ice-pick but, unfortunately, it hit him and he died. I was scared and could not inform anyone about the incident,” she added.

Navneet was a small-time construction contractor and the couple had two children, a sevenyear-old son and a four-year-old daughter.
