Martyr Mandeep Singh’s family gets life threat

-

: Family members of Machhil braveheart Mandeep Singh, who was killed by terrorists near the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir last year, have received a letter from an unknown sender threatening of killing them.

The letter, written in Hindi, was received by Nirmala Devi, mother of Mandeep Singh at Antehri village in this district. It read, “Tere bhi death warrant par sign ho chuke hai (Your death warrant has also been signed).”

Though the police have started investigations in to the matter, the family members are scared as they said that this is the second threat letter received by them. One such letter was received in November last year, a few weeks after the cremation of Mandeep. “The letter reached us via post office and nobody knows about the sender. We have taken up the matter with the police and they said that they have started investigations,” Mandeep’s brother Sandeep Singh told Hindustan Times.

“Besides a life threat to family members, including Sandeep and Mandeep’s widow Prerna, the letter also mentioned some controversial remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi”, he added.

The letter, he said, also “congratulated” the family members for getting Rs 50-lakh compensation from the government.

Kurukshetra superintendent of police Abhishek Garg said, “In the preliminary investigation, it was found that the letter was posted from Pipli post office and the sender seems to be mentally unstable.” HTC
