Dera Sacha Sauda head gets threat from ‘Babbar Khalsa International’
: Dera Sacha Sauda head Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh has purportedly received a threat from the Babbar Khalsa International (BKI), a banned Sikh militant group.
Police has registered a complaint in this connection and provided security to the dera.
In a complaint, dera chairperson Vipasana Insan said the threat was received by Ram Rahim during the weekly satsang (religious congregation) on Sunday.
The dera chief, she said, gives replies to questions of devotees written on slips.
“On last Sunday, we received two slips wherein ‘Babbar Khalsa International’ and ‘Babbar Khalsa Panthak Jathe’ threatened to kill the dera chief. The message was written in Punjabi,” Vipasna said in her complaint.
Meanwhile, a police spokesperson said, “We have registered a case under Section 506 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and tightened security at the dera premises. We have started investigations into the matter.”
The dera chief, who claims to have over 5 crore followers, already enjoys Z-plus security.
The dera had extended its support to the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) in the recent assembly elections in Punjab in response to the request of some Akali leaders.
This had attracted severe criticism from Sikh radical organisations, leading to the Akal Takht ordering a probe by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Commmitte (SGPC) into the matter.
