No objection if cancellation report is accepted: VB to court
: The vigilance bureau on Tuesday submitted before an SAS Nagar court that it has no objection in case a cancellation report is accepted in the disproportionate assets case against Punjab former director general of police SS Virk.
AIG, vigilance, Surjit Singh appeared before the court of additional district and sessions Puneet Mohan Sharma on behalf of AS Rai, chief director, vigilance bureau. The bureau was summoned as a complainant. The cancellation report will come up for hearing on March 22. The investigating agency had moved court on February 27 seeking cancellation saying they have found no evidence to substantiate the allegations.
In September 2007, the bureau had registered a case and arrested Virk on charges of possessing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income and for misuse of his official position.
In March 2008, the VB had filed the main chargesheet against Virk for having “disproportionate assets” of ₹16.86 crore and a supplementary chargesheet was filed in August 2008, wherein Virk was accused of having “unaccounted money” of ₹3.12 crore in more than 35 bank accounts. Virk, considered close to then chief minister Amarinder Singh, was suspended by the SAD-BJP government following a land grab case. He was later reinstated and retired from his parent cadre.
