BOY HANGS SELF, POLICE BLAME ‘DISTURBED UPBRINGING’

A 10-year-old boy committed suicide by hanging himself from a door frame at his home in Rajasthan’s Bundi district on Friday.

The reason for the extreme step taken by the boy is not yet known, but police blamed it on his “disturbed upbringing.”

The police said the boy, identified as Ashul, told his younger sister Radhe that he would kill himself.

And in the afternoon he hanged himself with a scarf.

Their father, a labourer, was not at their home at the Rampura Farm area of the district while their mentally-challenged mother had gone to her parents’ home at the time of the incident.

Ashul’s eight-year-old sister, without realising what had happened, had cut the scarf with a knife and brought down the body, said Buddhi Prakash, the station house officer (SHO), Namana.

“The girl, finding his brother motionless, put a quilt over the body and went out to play. Only after their father came home, the boy was rushed to the hospital. But he was declared dead on arrival,” the official said.

Seeing the noose mark around his neck, the hospital informed the police.

Ruling out any foul play, Buddhi Prakash said the boy had a very difficult upbringing as his father mostly stayed out and the mother was not fit enough to take care of her children.

The boy must not have even known the consequence of what he was doing, the officer added.

Both the siblings were students of the government school in the area.
