KEY MOMENTS: DAY 3

-

Ravindra Jadeja scored his 7th fifty and stitched a 96-run stand with Wrirddhiman Saha before Australia were blighted by a partial DRS on Day 3 of the 4th Test. HT looks at the top five moments of the day.

RAVINDRA JADEJA’S SWORD DANCE IN THE HILLS

Ravindra Jadeja survived Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood with grit and some help from a partially available DRS. In the second hour, Jadeja deposited Nathan Lyon for a six over long on. Jadeja notched his seventh fifty and celebrated by swinging his bat like a sword.

DHARAMSALA PITCH: ‘DURBAN’SALA OR WACA?

Umesh Yadav was getting zip off the deck at 145 kmph. The pitch produced so much bounce that it kept Wriddhiman Saha busy behind the wickets. The way Indian pacers made the ball talk, it looked as if the match was played in Perth of the 80’s or Durban.

AUSTRALIA’S ‘POWER’ STRUGGLE AGAINST DRS

At the start of Day 3 in Dharamsala, Australia faced problems with the DRS because only one portion of the review system was available. From the 94th over till the 103rd over, there was a power cut in the area where the DRS operations were being conducted, meaning ball-tracking was not be available. Only the snickometer and the pitch map was available. In the 102nd over, Josh Hazlewood appealed twice for an lbw against Jadeja but on both occasions, Australia could not take the review.

DAVID WARNER’S INDIAN NIGHTMARE CONTINUES

Before this series, David Warner had slammed five ODI centuries in 10 games and averaged 71 in three Tests against Pakistan. In this series though, he has failed to deliver. He was undone by a good ball from Umesh Yadav in the second innings as he fell for 6.

MAXWELL GETS THE BETTER OF KULDEEP YADAV

In the first innings, Kuldeep had flummoxed Glenn Maxwell with a googly that dipped and spun away sharply. In the second innings, Maxwell played out his first over carefully before slamming a boundary and a six over long-on off consecutive deliveries.
