NHRC seeks report on Pehlu Khan’s death

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Friday sought an explanation from the Rajasthan government on the attack on dairy owners that led to the death of one, Pehlu Khan, allegedly by a cow protection group on April 1.
The Rajasthan government has told the home ministry the dairy owners had called the police saying that Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) members had attacked them.The investigation of the case has been transferred from SHO Behror to Alwar’s deputy superintendent of police, Parmal Singh, the report added.
Behror police had received information around 6.30pm on April 1 that VHP workers and 200 others had stopped two pick-up vans and were thrashing people travelling in them, the report said. Pehlu Khan had in his dying declaration blamed the VHP and the Bajrang Dal for the assault.
Three persons were arrested on Wednesday, and one of them has admitted to chasing the five Muslims, the police said.
“Vipin Yadav has told us that he was chasing the two vehicles with a person named Deepak. He said he began beating the Muslims on sudden provocation,” superintendent of police, Rahul Prakash, said.
The three accused were sent to jail for 14 days on Friday. Ten others have also been identified from video footage.
