In a new twist to the alleged gangrape of a 16-year-old girl in Rohtak, her mother alleged that the charge that the girl was sexually exploited by her (mother’s) three lovers was baseless and made at the behest of her husband. She claimed that her husband conspired against her after she lodged a case against him for domestic violence.

Rejecting all the allegations made by her daughter, the woman said, “I can’t believe my own daughter has said such demeaning things about me. Everything about my affair and her beating are false. It is clear that she is being pressurised by her father, who wants to get back at me after I had lodged a domes- tic violence case against him.”

The woman said she had been living separately from her husband and children for the past three months after her husband threw her out of the house over a dispute on his drinking habit.

“I came back in March, thinking his anger may have receded but he brutally thrashed me and threw me out once again. After that, I had lodged a police complaint against him and refused for a settlement, which further enraged him,” the woman said.

Meanwhile, villagers gathered at the police station on Tuesday vouching for the innocence of the three accused men. They said that the girl’s father had some monetary dispute with the men due to which, he forced her to name them in the FIR.

Based on the 16-year-old girl’s complaint, the police had earlier lodged a case against her mother and three men, living in their neighbourhood, under several sections of the IPC and POCSO Act.

Police said they have not made any arrests so far. “There are different versions coming up, but our investigation is presently going on,” said inspector Garima, the incharge of the women police station. On being asked about the medical examination of the victim, she said the reports have not ruled out rape.
