Gangster Gounder giving Punjab cops sleepless nights
Not only he has been able to keep himself off the long hands of law, gangster Vicky Gounder, who had fled the Nabha high-security jail in November last year, is striking at will when it comes to eliminating rivals. Even as there are various intelligence reports available with the police that Gounder had been moving in and out of Punjab after escaping from jail, police have failed to nab him.
JALANDHAR : A day after three alleged gangsters were shot dead by members of a gang led by Nabha jailbreak escapee Vicky Gounder near the Aujala bypass on Kahnuwan Road in Gurdaspur on Thursday, a joint team of the special task force (STF) and counter-Intelligence wing, accompanied by the city police, nabbed Gounder’s four aides at Chhoti Baradari-II and Hardayal Nagar areas of the city on Friday.
Following a tip-off, task force’s assistant inspector general (Jalandhar) Mukhwinder Singh Bhullar, STF superintendent of police Harpreet Singh Mander, assistant commissioner of police (central) Satinder Pal Singh Chadha, inspectors Kanwar Vijay Pal, inspectors Kulwant Singh, Balbir Singh and more than 50 cops rushed to Chhoti Baradari-II around 2pm and raided two houses and nabbed three gangsters. The fourth accused, who scaled a wall to flee, was arrested after a brief chase by cops in adjoining Hardayal Nagar.
The accused have been identified as Damanpreet Singh, Bharat Bhushan, Ranveer Singh and Harman Deep Singh, all residents of Gurdaspur.
The police recovered a pistol, airgun and iron road from their possession.
A case under Sections 399 (Making preparation to commit dacoity), 402 (assembling for purpose of committing dacoity) and 25, 27 of the Arms Act has been registered.
The presence of cops created a panic in the area. The police also quizzed owners of the both the houses.
Police commissioner Parveen Kumar Sinha said the gangsters ran out of money and were planning

to strike in the city. Sinha added that their role in Thursday’s triple murders in Gurdaspur is yet to be probed.
On Thursday, three members of a rival gang were shot dead allegedly by Gounder and his men near the Aujala by-pass on Kahnuwan Road in Gurdaspur.
