75 cops challaned for violating traffic rules

-

ROHTAK: The district police on Friday issued challans to 75 people — all of them cops!

The police organised a physical training session for its cops on Friday morning at the police lines and called almost the entire force to take part in the session.

In a surprising turn of events, Rohtak SP Pankaj Nain deployed an inspector, Sunita, right at the gate to keep a check on cops arriving without helmets or those who were not wearing seat belts. “More than 30 cops found violating traffic rules were issued challans at the spot. From constables to inspectors, anyone found not complying traffic rules was challaned,” a spokesperson told HT.

The district police have been running a special drive to create awareness among citizens regarding traffic rules. As a part of this drive, it has actively been issuing challans to commuters found violating traffic laws. “If the police itself violate rules, how can it ask commuters to follow them?” SP Pankaj Nain said.

The spokesperson said that station house officers (SHOs) of all police stations were asked to check reporting policemen for helmets and seat belts and issue challans if anyone is found violating rules. During the checking, 45 cops were issued challans.

The police have also issued a WhatsApp number (9996464100) and is urging people to send pictures of cops violating traffic rules on it. “Based on a photograph, a night rider has been issued a challan for Rs 1,000. He needs to pay the money to collect his bike again,” the spokesperson added. He said the police will protect the identity of informers and will also gift them presents for their contribution.
