Ensure safety of Valley students: Rajnath to states

Taking cognisance of the of incidents of harassment involving Kashmiri students, Union home minister Rajnath Singh on Friday asked chief ministers of all the states to ensure their safety.

On his instructio­ns, the home ministry also issued an advisory to all the states to take strict action against those responsibl­e for such incidents. The ministry ordered the states to sensitise their designated nodal officers on the issue of Kashmiri students and address their complaints .

"I have learnt that there were a few incidents of misbehavio­ur against Kashmiris in some places. I appeal to all the chief ministers to ensure security of Kashmiris in their states. I appeal to everyone to consider the Kashmiri youth as their own brethren and treat them well," said the home minister.

In the advisory, the home ministry said recently there have been reports of harassment of students of Jammu and Kashmir studying in educationa­l institutio­ns in some states.

Therefore, the state government­s and police authoritie­s are requested to take strict action against the culprits.

“The state government­s and union territorie­s are requested to sensitise the nodal officers already appointed earlier for addressing such complaints from students of Jammu and Kashmir," said the advisory.

The ministry said action as per law needs to be taken against miscreants and safety of students from other states, including Jammu and Kashmir, needs to be fully ensured.

The ministry has also appointed a nodal official, Sanjay Roy, who is a director in the ministry, to address the complaints of Kashmiris all across the country.
