Amid uncertaint­y over Khalsa varsity future, Walia joins as V-C

: Even as the Punjab government has announced to scrap the Khalsa University Act, 2016, Gurmohan Walia took charge as its vice-chancellor here on Monday. Walia was welcomed by pro-chancellor Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina.

Walia also met staff and students, assuring them that the uncertaint­ies relating to the university will be put to rest soon. He said the university was establishe­d as per the norms set by the government and the UGC and he will strive to make it one of the country’s best.

An expert in religious studies and women rights, Walia is PhD in English and had earlier been director, education, SGPC committee , that manages 45 colleges and 75 schools.
