SC seeks reply on plea against TN Npower plant

The Supreme Court on Monday sought the Centre’s and Tamil Nadu government’s response on an appeal against the Coastal Regulation Zone clearance granted to units of Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project (KNPP). A bench headed by Justice MB Lokur asked for the response on a petition filed by nuclear activist G Sundarrajan challenging the order of the National Green Tribunal (NGT). The petition, filed through advocate Prashant Bhushan, said the Environment Impact Assessment was not done by an accredited agency and also violated the accepted norms and procedure prescribed under the Environment (Protection) Act.
