Dalit student ‘commits suicide’, father alleges rape

GIRL’S FATHER ALLEGED THAT YOUTHS WHO TOOK HER TO HOSPITAL HAD RAPED HIS DAUGHTER AND WERE BLACKMAILING HER

A 16-year-old Dalit student at Government Post Graduate College, Jind, allegedly committed suicide by consuming poison on Tuesday.

She was rushed to a hospital by five youths, allegedly from her college.

However, the father of the victim has given a complaint to the police stating that his daughter was forced to consume poison by the youths who brought her to hospital. He also alleged that they had abducted and raped her, and were blackmailing her by threatening to release the video of the act.

The victim’s father said he received a call from a private hospital an hour after his daughter left for college from their residence at Jind’s Aasan village, and he was told that she was brought in a critical condition. By the time he reached the hospital, his daughter had already died. The police said they were in the process of lodging an FIR on the complaint of the father. “A complaint has been received against five unnamed youths. We are registering an FIR and will make arrests to find out more about the incident,” DSP Kaptan Singh said.

The relatives of the victim said she had last week indirectly hinted to them that she was being blackmailed by some boys. However, she had refused to divulge any more information despite their pursuance.
