A 33-year-old man allegedly committed suicide by consuming poison in Sonepat on late Saturday night. The deceased has been identified as Subhash Singh, a resident of Murthal village who worked as an inspector with the Haryana State Cooperative Supply and Marketing Federation Limited (HAFED) at Karnal’s Jundalana Mandi.

The family of the deceased have lodged a complaint against 10 people, including chief parliamentary secretary and BJP MLA from Asandh BS Virk, for abetment to suicide. The police, however, have registered a case against seven of his colleagues, excluding the BJP MLA.

The family and friends said Subhash was being harassed by his co-workers at the behest of the MLA.

“When he was newly transferred, the old workers, junior to him, started pressurising him to work according to them. They are close aides of the BJP MLA. When he did not cow down to their pressure, they hatched a conspiracy and framed him in corruption charges and irregularities at Hafed godown,” Subhash’s colleague said.

Sources said a local court had on Saturday denied anticipatory bail to Subhash in one of the charges in which he was allegedly framed by his co-workers.

Subhash’s wife Neetu alleged that the BJP MLA had in the past physically attacked him as well, and was behind the entire

conspiracy.

However, the police have not registered a case against the MLA. Sonepat city SHO said, “Just because they have claimed that his co-workers used MLA’s name to put pressure on him does not make it sufficient for us to book the BJP MLA. We have booked seven people based on the family’s complaint and further probe is on in the matter.”

The BJP MLA, too, refuted the allegations, saying he had no role whatsoever in the case. “Some notorious elements might be trying to name me in this, but the probe is being conducted,” he said.
