The Haryana government has given the district education and district elementary education officials across the state four days to organise a district-level ‘Yoga Olympiad’ on May 22.

The May 18 communique of the director secondary education to hold the second edition of district and state-level ‘Yoga Olympiad’, in the run up to the national-level event, in short notice has sent the field officers and school teachers into a tizzy.

The national-level ‘Yoga Olympiad’ will be held in Delhi from June 18 to 20 .

All government and government-aided schools are eligible to participate in this event.

The state government, referring to the NCERT, has directed the schools to select two teams of four boys and as many girls up to 14 years of age from upper primary and secondary level students each for the nationallevel event.

Before the national yoga Olympiad, holding the competitions at district and state-level is compulsory. “The time given to hold this event is very less. The letter was issued on Thursday and the district-level competition must be held on Monday. Why is this tearing hurry to organise it when the national event will be in June,” said a DEO on the condition of anonymity.

After the one-day districtlevel yoga competitions, the selected teams will compete at the state-level Olympiad to be organised by district education officer, Sonepat, on May 25-26.

The expenditure of competitions will be borne out by DEOs and DEEOs concerned, while for the state-level competitions, the government has promised to sanction ₹3.38 lakh.
