ACCORDING TO OFFICIALS, OVER 25 STAFF MEMBERS, INCLUDING DOCTORS AND PARAMEDICS, WILL BE RELIEVED ON TUESDAY

MOGA: A day after the health authorities relieved as many as 40 officials on deputation, several departments at the civil hospital here, remained virtually closed on Friday due to staff shortage.

“To overcome the shortage of officials at the place of sanctioned posts and to do away with the process of transfer of employees along with post to another place by the administrative departments, government has put a complete ban on posting of any official at any place other than one where sanctioned post exists,” state the state finance department’s letter.

“Any official working at the moment at any other place must be immediately transferred to the place of one’s sanction post,” it added.

The daily work at civil surgeon’s office continues to suffer after the staff, including clerical, pharmacists, drivers and category-D, is relieved. The departments, including birth and death certificate, drug control, food, tuberculosis also came to a standstill, officials said.

Hospital authorities said the situation will turn worse after the para-medical staff and doctors are sent back to their primary postings as it will directly affect the emergency and outdoor patient department (OPD) services. The hospital witnesses over 800 OPD and daily footfall of over 5,000 patients.

“All services, including pharmacy, labs, hepatitis department, anti-rabies department will suffer,” a senior doctor said. Officials said over 25 staff members, including doctors and paramedical staff, will be relieved on Tuesday.

As per information, after hospital’s upgrade from 50 beds to 130 beds over two years back, the authorities failed to accordingly add staff. “After upgrade, we were already facing staff crunch. Now, with relieving of the officials, work will suffer more. We have written to the higher authorities regarding the matter,” assistant civil surgeon Dr Arun Gupta.
