Abhimanyu enters Rendezvous Roland Garros title round

Abhimanyu Vannemreddy, 17, capped a good day for India by making it to the final of the Rendezvous Roland Garros here on Friday.

Against Minjong Park of South Korea, Abhimanyu showed tenacity to grind it out and despite being down by a set, went on to win 3-6, 6-3, 6-3.

By all counts Abhimanyu wasn’t supposed to be here after having lost the India-leg of Rendezvous Roland Garros to Sidhant J Banthia. But Banthia pulled out in the last minute due to injury. Abhimanyu showed that he was up to mark as a replacement.

With Park limping after picking up an injury, Abhimanyu closed out the match to become the first Indian to qualify for the final of the event.
