KARNAL: Pre-monsoon showers hit the northern districts of Haryana early Wednesday morning. The rain gave respite to residents from the scorching heat and brought relief to paddy farmers. According to the Met department, the minimum temperature in the state has come down to 27 degree Celsius from 35 degree Celsius last week. The department predicts more rains in the next 24 hours.

Meanwhile, heavy rainfall has exposed the district administration’s poor rain preparedness as water logging remained a big problem in several parts of Kurukshetra, Karnal and Yamunanagar.

About 18mm rain on Wednesday morning in Sirsa totally changed the climate. The mercury went down to 38 degree Celsius from 46.2 degree Celsius. The experts at Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agriculture University (CCSHAU), Hisar, predicted more showers till Saturday and a further decrease in temperature.

Head of department meteorology and agriculture Raj Singh said, “More rain is expected on Thursday as a weather disturbance cycle has reached Haryana.”Singh also said that rain is a boon for the farmers who have almost completed the sowing of cotton and cotton saplings. This would boost the growth of the saplings. Meanwhile, dust storm in Sirsa brought problems for the local residents, as trees, electricity lines and bill boards fell on the road.

About 18 mm rain exposed poor water drainage at Shiv Chowk area, Begu road, Old Housing Board near Surkabh Chowk and the area around the bus stand. Hisar Kisan Express running between Bathinda and Delhi, reached Sirsa one hour late from its scheduled time after a tree fell on the railway lines near Kalanwali village.
