COPS TO TAKE LEGAL ADVICE FOR ACTION AGAINST SAD LEADER

-

A day after senior Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader and former Khemkaran MLA Virsa Singh Valtoha’s video in which he is threatening Tarn Taran deputy commissioner and station house officers, went viral, the police are waiting for a complaint to take action against him.

SSP Harjit Singh said, “We are taking advice of district attorney about what action can be taken against him.” “We have received no complaint against Valtoha. If somebody lodges a complaint, we are sure to file kalandra(a notice issued against a person who is likely to commit breach of peace or disturbance to the public)”, he said. He said, “When a government employee is threatened, FIR cannot be registered as the offence falls under Section 189 (threat of injury to public servant) of the IPC.”

“In such a situation, we can only file kalandra in court,” the SSP said. Meanwhile, DC DPS Kharbanda said, “We will take action tomorrow as today is not a working day.”

Meanwhile, Congress MLAs from Tarn Taran condemned Valtoha for threatening the DC and cops. Sukhpal Singh Bhullar, Harminder Gill, Ramanjit Singh Sikki and Dr Dharampal Agnihotri, in a joint statement, said Valtoha appeared to be still in the “hangover of 10-year Akali highhandedness”. “He should better realise that the regime has changed and it is the rule of law that is now prevailing in Punjab and not the jungle raj of the Akalis he was part of.” They also demanded a probe into Valtoha’s dealings, alleging he amassed wealth through drug trade.
