5 key police posts lying vacant
At a time when the city is witnessing a rise in crime, particularly snatchings and thefts, the key posts in the commissionerate police are lying vacant with officers holding additional charge of the posts for last one and half months, compromising the efficiency of functioning.
Additional deputy commissioner of police (ADCP-1); ADCP (investigation); ADCP (special branch); ADCP (traffic) and ADCP (headquarters) are crucial posts in the commissionerate police that have not been filled by the government yet.
The alleged political interference in filling police posts is being seen as the primary reason behind that consensus not been reached for names of SP rank officials on these posts.
The jurisdiction of ADCP-1 has to supervise and monitor seven police stations including PS-1, PS-2, PS-3, PS-4, PS-8, PSRama Mandi and PS- Navi Baradari along with his two assistant commissioners of police (ACPs).

On May 10, ADCP (investigation) Harjit Singh was transferred to Tarn Taran and since then, the post is vacant. Crime Investigation Agencies (CIA-1 and 11), economics offense wing, human trafficking unit, proclaimed offender staff, cyber wing, anti-gangster wing and anti-narcotics wing, are being directly overseen by ADCP (investigation), affecting the functioning of all these wings.
The post of ADCP (traffic) is also vacant since February and its charge is being given to other SP-rank officials. Traffic wing is now being monitored by ACP (traffic) Harwinder Singh.
ADCP-II D Sudarvizhi is holding two additional charges including ADCP-1 and special branch. ADCP headquarters Amneet Kondal is on leave and the work is handled by ACP headquarters under the supervision of deputy commissioner of police (DCP) Rajinder Singh.
