Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) leader Abhay Chautala on Tuesday said the party workers will block all entry points to the state to stop traffic movement from the bordering state of Punjab in protest over the Satluj-Yamuna Link (SYL) canal row on July 10.

“We gave an ultimatum to the Centre to implement the SC’s verdict or give us an assurance over the issue by July 9, otherwise we will block 5-6 entry points of the state from Punjab for a symbolic protest,” he added.

Chautala, who was in Karnal for a meeting with party workers, said, “I have held meeting with the party workers in 14 districts and in next two days, we will cover all 22 districts and ask party workers to make preparations for the one-day protest”

“If the Centre tries to delay this any further, we will take next decision after July 10, but the fight will continue till Haryana gets its share,” he added.

Reacting to allegations of the political parties that INLD is doing a political drama, he said, “INLD is fighting for Haryana’s right and all political parties should join our fight.”

Speaking on Kisan Panchayats being organised by former CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda, he said, “Hooda is the biggest anti-farmer leader. During his stint as the chief minister, farmers were forced to sell their land to corporate houses at throwaway prices. Now he is shedding crocodile tears in the Kisan panchayats.”
