HOUSE PANELS TAKE STOCK OF PROJECTS IN HOLY CITY

A Parliament­ary Standing Committee on Food and Consumer Affairs and a Rajya Sabha committee visited Amritsar to review the ongoing projects on Tuesday.

In the presence of MPs from the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha, the committee held discussion­s on projects, agendas and issues with officials of different department­s.The Rajya Sabha committee head Satish Chander Mishra addressed the issues of railway authoritie­s , airport authoritie­s , Bhakhra Beas management board , central ground water authority officials.

MP Amritsar Gurjeet Singh Aujla also attended the meeting and assured to inform government regarding issues.

Supporting the proposal for naming Mohali Airport as Shaheed-E-Azam Sardar Bhagat Singh Internatio­nal Airport, Aujla said , “It is a way to honour and remember our freedom fighters”. On the drug issue he said, “The Congress government is aiming to free Punjab from drug menace. For that we need the central government’s help. Within the past ten years the drug has penetrated in every house affecting the youth.”

“The rehabilita­tion centres will also run smoothly if the central government backs them,” Aujla added. Presenting a letter to the chairman of Food and Consumer Affairs regarding the distributi­on system scams, he informed about the steps taken by the state government.
