Entrance test for schools for the meritoriou­s again on August 2

After only 2,856 students cleared the common entrance test (CET) for admission to the nine government-run Schools for the Meritoriou­s in Punjab against 4,650 seats, the education department had will now conduct the exam again on August 2. In the June 25 exam, 4,919 students had appeared.

However, those who cleared the earlier test have been asked to report for admission counsellin­g on June 17 in all districts.

For the August 2 exam, online registrati­on started on Friday. Students from the state government schools, and Adarsh and Dashmesh schools, who got above 80% in Class 10 are eligible to apply on the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) website. Those who could not clear the earlier test can apply again too.

The nodal agency, Society for Promotion of Quality Education for Poor and Meritoriou­s students of Punjab, said results will be declared on August 19 and counsellin­g will commence on August 21 at 9am at the respective district headquarte­rs.

The schools are located in Amritsar, Bathinda, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Mohali, Patiala, Hakumat Singh Wala village in Ferozepur, Ghabdhan village in Sangrur district, and Talwara in Hoshiarpur

Education and accommodat­ion are free, and students are also readied for entrance examinatio­ns of prestigiou­s institutes of higher studies.

There are 150 seats at the Hoshiarpur school, offering humanities, and 500 each in the eight other schools, offering medical, non-medical and commerce streams. When’s the test: August 2
