: In a bid to project himself as the tallest Congress leader in Haryana, former chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Sunday organised a kisan panchayat in Yamunanagar.

Keeping the possibility of the Congress high command revamping the party organisation in Haryana soon, Hooda is making all efforts to prove his popularity through these kisan panchayats.

Besides sitting Congress MLAs Kuldeep Sharma, Shakuntla Khatak, Jaiveer Valmiki and Jai Tirath Dahiya, Hooda also managed to bring several other party leaders such as Phool Chand Mulana, Nirmal Singh, Kailasho Saini, Krishna Pandit, Harmohinder Singh Chatha, Bisan Lal Saini, Rakesh Kamboj, Dharam Singh Chhoker, Satpal Kaushik and Youth Congress state president Sachin Kundu.

Hooda, who has been facing CBI cases, has been organising a series of such shows in several districts of the state to highlight the farmers’ issues.

Other Congress leaders such as Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee president Ashok Tanwar, Congress chief spokesperson and Kaithal legislator Randeep Surjewala and Congress legislative party leader Kiran Chaudhary are also organising similar programmes and public meetings, staking their claim to the post of next state Congress president.

TARGETS BJP FOR FARMERS’ PLIGHT

Addressing the gathering, Hooda accused the BJP governments at the Centre and the state of ignoring the farming community, adding that in the 30-month rule of the NDA government nearly 36000 farmers have committed suicide.

"We will not let the government loot the farmers and will continue our fight till it implements the Swaminathan Commission recommendations,” Hooda said.

His son and MP from Rohtak Lok Sabha seat Deepender Hooda said if voted to power, the Congress will waive off farmer loans and unemployment allowance will be given to educated unemployed youths.
