Gurdaspur girls who faked selfie death return home after five days

-

: The two Gurdaspur girls, who faked the story of their drowning last week, returned to their homes on Tuesday.

Lovepreet, 21, and Nisha, 18, had cooked up the story to flee their homes ‘in search of big money’, Gurdaspur senior superintendent of police BS Virk told reporters.

The girls returned to Amritsar from there the police brought them to their home in Gurdaspur, said the SSP.

“We have handed over the girls to the parents with a warning. No case will be registered against them and they will be counselled,” he added.

Earlier, Lovepreet’s sister Sophia had told police that the two girls had drowned in a canal while taking a selfie.

“Police became suspicious after the bodies of the girls could not be found from the UBDC canal on the Gurdaspur-Sri Hargobindpur road,” said Virk.

When Sophia was grilled she spilled the beans and said they had planned the entire drama on July 13 as they were fed with their village life and were attracted towards Bollywood.

“On July 14, the girls took a lift from a truck driver around 5 am telling him that they were policewomen and were going to join work at Chandigarh,” said the SSP.

The truck driver dropped them at Shri Hargobindpur from where they took a bus to Chandigarh.

“Later, we boarded a train to New Delhi but soon we ran out of money. Realising our mistake, we decided to return home. So, we sold our mobile for Rs 3,000 and took a train to Amritsar,” said Lovepreet, a BA-1 student, whose father is a travel agent. Her friend Nisha is a Class 12 passout.
