STF unearths drug nexus, five arrested
Akali sarpanch’s son arrested with 500gm heroin; woman among five held with 58 gm heroin in Amritsar
The Special Task Force (STF) claimed to have unearthed a nexus, wherein gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpuria was allegedly running a drug nexus from inside the Amritsar Central Jail, on Tuesday.
The STF team arrested five persons along with 500 grams heroin and a SUV.
During a press conference, AIG STF Rachpal Singh said, “During a checking at a naka near Bhuse village, under the jurisdiction of Sarai Amanat Khan police stations, we recovered 500 grams heroin from five persons inside the vehicle.”
The suspects were identified as Sandeep Singh, Mandeep Singh, Garagjapreet Singh, Bachittar Singh, Gursewak Singh. During preliminary questioning it was revealed that suspect Sandeep Singh bought heroin from Jaggu and supplied it further.
One Mannu of Jathaul is also allegedly involved in the nexus.
The AIG revealed that Jaggu will be brought from the Amritsar Central jail on production warrant for questioning. Though the police officer confirmed that Jaggu used a mobile for his operations. The AIG said, “As of now we do not have much details. The matter will be clear once we question Jaggu.”
Previously also the STF had broken a nexus wherein peddlers were operating from inside the jail.
The STF official said that a case against the suspects is registered under Sections 21,29/61/85 of the NDPS Act at the Sarai Amanat Khan police station in Tarn Taran.
SARPANCH’S SON HELD WITH DRUGS
In a joint operation, the Narcotics Control Bureau and the STF claimed to have nabbed one Gajjan Singh, son of an Akali sarpanch named Ajit Singh and recovered 500 grams heroin from him.
AIG Rachpal Singh said, “We had inputs that Gajjan has links with smugglers in Pakistan and used to buy heroin from them to sell here.”
Meanwhile, in another case, the STF claimed to have nabbed five persons including a woman and recovered 58 grams heroin from them.
As per STF, 40 grams heroin was recovered from Harpal Singh and Narinder Singh. While remaining was seized from one Manmeet Kaur, her brother-in-law Simranjit Singh and one accomplice Saurav Kumar.
