Minor couple consumes poison in Karnal, boy dies

A boy and a girl into relationship allegedly consumed poisonous substance at Gharaunda town of Karnal district after the boy was reportedly beaten up by a relative of the girl.

Vikram Singh (16) of Gharaunda, died at hospital, the girl was admitted to the Kalpana Chawla Government Medical College. Doctors said she was critical. Reports said the two were Class 11 students. The relative of the girl, who belongs to upper caste, beat up the boy, who was from backward community.

Vikram’s father said the girl’s relative Tinku beat up his son on Friday night, following which the two consumed poison at the Gharaunda railway station. After consuming poison, Vikram made a phone call to his mother. A case was lodged against Tinku under section 306 of IPC but he was not arrested yet.
