THE TRUCK OVERTURNED AND AS THE DRIVER AND CLEANER GOT A CRANE TO LIFT THE VEHICLE, BLOOD OF ANIMALS KEPT INSIDE SPILLED ONTO THE ROAD

A truck allegedly carrying beef was set on fire by a mob in Odisha’s Ganjam district on Sunday afternoon. The truck was on its way from Bhubaneswar to Andhra Pradesh when it overturned at Randa under Golanthara police station limits.

As the driver and the cleaner of the truck got a crane to lift the vehicle, blood of animals reportedly kept inside spilled onto the road. Soon, a mob reportedly of VHP and Bajrang Dal activists arrived at the spot even as the driver and cleaner fled the spot.

The mob then set the vehicle on fire and blocked NH-16, said Sadar sub-divisional police officer Ashok Mohanty.

Police said they were trying to identify the owner of the truck, and added that action will be taken against the driver as per the existing laws.

“We are investigating whether the vehicle was transporting beef,” police said.
