Four friends killed as car collides with truck in Moga

Four friends were killed after the Swift Dzire car (PB-29-X7786) they were travelling in collided head-on with a wheat-laden truck at Kot Isse Khan near here around 11.30pm Sunday. Sagardeep Khurana, 32, Gurpreet Singh, 30, Bhupinder Singh, 22, and Jagmeet Singh, 22, all resident of Kot Isse Khan, were on their way to Dharamkot.

Sagardeep Khurana, 32, Gurpreet Singh, 30, Bhupinder Singh, 22, and Jagmeet Singh, 22, all resident of Kot Isse Khan, were on their way to Dharamkot to drop one of their friends when the accident took place.

Station house officer (SHO) Jasvir Singh said the truck (PB-05-L9927) was on the way to Kot Isse Khan. “All four occupants of the car died on the spot,” he said.

The SHO said the truck driver managed to flee from the spot leaving his vehicle behind. The bodies have been handed over to the families after post-mortem.

Sagardeep had a general store, while Bhupinder was working for a DJ group.

The police have registered a case under Sections 304-A (causing death by negligence), 427 (mischief causing damage to the amount of fifty rupees) and 279 (rash driving or riding on a public way) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at the Kot Isse Khan police station.

MAN GOING TO MEET SISTER ON RAKHI RUN OVER BY TRAIN

PHAGWARA: A 45-year-old man was killed after being run over by a train in which he was travelling to Haryana to meet his sister on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, police said on Monday.

Rajinder Kumar of Jalandhar accidental­ly fell from the train and came under it at a local railway station in the district on Sunday night, a Government Railway Police (GRP) official said.

Kumar was travelling to Panipat in Haryana to meet his sister. He got down at the station to buy something when the train started moving, the official said.

As he rushed to get on the train, Kumar lost balance and fell between the platform and the train, which ran over him.

The body was handed over to the family after post-mortem, the GRP said.
