BABA BAKALA (AMRITSAR): Alleging that the Congress government is committing excesses against Akali workers, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal on Monday said the party will move the Punjab and Haryana high court to seek a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the “false cases” being registered against party workers.

In the absence of SAD patron Parkash Singh Badal, Sukhbir was the lead speaker at the party’s political conference organised here to mark the ‘Rakhar Punia.’

He said, “The Amarinder Singh government is harassing common Akali workers. I dare them to book me or any other big leader of the SAD. We will initiate cases against police officers found indulging in vendetta at the behest of Congress leaders.”

Stating that the SAD would not be cowed down by “false cases,” he asked the party men to gherao police stations, if needed.

ON LOAN WAIVER

Targeting the state government on the farm debt waiver issue, the SAD president said, “Now that the government has admitted that it won’t waive off farmers’ loans, it should not try to shift the onus on the Centre. It should instead apologise to Punjabis for betraying them.”

SIDHU WILL BETRAY CAPT: MAJITHIA

Taking on local bodies minister Navjot Singh Sidhu, SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia said, “Sidhu will betray Capt Amarinder Singh in the same manner in which he had betrayed his mentor Arun Jaitley, Parkash Singh Badal and PM Narendra Modi.”

Others who spoke on the occasion included Khadoor Sahib MP Ranjit Singh Brahmpura, Gulzar Singh Ranike, Bibi Jagir Kaur and Virsa Singh Valtoha.

Notably, the BJP stayed away from the SAD event, even as state party president Vijay Sampla’s picture featured alongside Akali leaders on a banner put up in the background of the stage.
