Second counselling begins today
FARIDKOT: The second round of counselling for medical and dental admissions in the state institutes will start on Tuesday. Students can fill their preferences of colleges online, till August 13, on the official website of Baba Farid University of Heath Sciences (BFUHS), www.bfuhs.ac.in. The varsity is the nodal agency for state NEET counselling. Allotment of seats will be done on August 18.
The university will release list of seat allotment of medical and dental candidates on the official website. The aspirants are vying for 1,125 MBBS seats in eight medical colleges and 1,130 BDS seats in 14 dental colleges across Punjab. Admissions in-charge BFUHS, professor Arvind Sharma, said, “The online portal for registration will start at 5am on Tuesday. There are total 1,103 seats to be filled in the second counselling, including 348 medical seats and 755 dental seats.”
Authorities said all seats were allotted in the first online counselling on July 24, except the 15% NRI quota seats in each college. During counselling for NRI quota seats on August 4, only 35 seats were filled by the medical and dental candidates, of the total 300 seats including 136 MBBS seats.
The vacant NRI seats in government colleges were merged with the general quota seats; in the private colleges with management quota seats. In the second counselling, students will compete for seats surrendered by candidates after first counselling and the left out converted seats of NRI quota. Varsity authorities said they will be cautious about authenticity of documents submitted by the candidates in the second counselling. Officials had detected 15 ineligible candidates for the state government quota seats, during the first round.
