AMRITSAR : Police on Wednesday cracked the Islamabad locality double murder and arrested a couple who allegedly committed the crime with an intention to loot the deceased.

Subhash Chander Arora, 62, and his wife Kamlesh Rani,60, were found murdered with sharp-edged weapons on Monday. The bodies were spotted by Subhash’s sister Sushma who had come to the house to tie rakhi. Apart from valuables, some cash had also gone missing from the house.

“As there was no CCTV footage available, the needle of suspicion pointed towards neighbours Bharat Kumar, 23, and Sonia, 21, said,” deputy commissioner of police (investigation) Jagmohan Singh told reporters.

“Both Bharat and Sonia have a criminal record with drug peddling cases registered against them. The duo went missing after the incident,” he added.

“Bharat and Sonia were arrested on Wednesday from the Manawala railway station when they were trying to board a train,” he added. Two gold bangles, one ring and Rs 2,150 which they looted from the elderly couple were seized from the accused who drive e-rickshaws.

The accused considered the elderly couple a soft target as they stayed alone. “Subhash was alone at home when accused entered his house and attacked with sharp-edged weapons,” said ADCP Charanjit Singh.
