RUPNAGAR: Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak committee (SGPC) on Friday removed acting jathedar of Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib Giani Phoola Singh, just two days after his appointment.

The Sikh body has appointed Golden Temple granthi Giani Raghbir Singh as new acting jathedar of Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib, Anandpur Sahib.

This decision was taken during a meeting of the executive committee of SGPC held at Gurdwara Bhatha Sahib here. No reason was cited by the committee for the replacement of the acting jathedar.

Giving details about the decisions taken during the meeting, SGPC president Kirpal Singh Badungar said that in addition to his duty as granthi of Harmandar Sahib, Giani Raghbir Singh will also serve as acting jathedar of Takht Kesgarh Sahib.

He said Giani Phoola Singh will continue to serve as head granthi of Takht Kesgarh Sahib.

The SGPC had appointed Giani Phoola Singh as acting jathedar of the Takht Kesgarh Sahib on Wednesday in the wake of the death of jathedar Giani Mal Singh. Badungar also said that Takht Sri Damdama Sahib acting Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh has been appointed as fullfledged jathedar of the Takht.

He said the executive committee has also given its formal approval to the accepted demands of pathis of SGPC, who had held a protest at the Golden Temple complex recently.
