POWERGRID, NRTS-II gets new chief

The Power Grid Corporatio­n of India Limited’s (POWERGRID) Northern Region Transmissi­on System – II will now be under the charge of H.K. Mallick, executive director. Mallick shall be responsibl­e for operations and maintenanc­e and project execution of EHV/ UHV transmissi­on lines and sub-stations under the central transmissi­on projects in the states of Jammu &Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, parts of Haryana, and Chandigarh. Mallick has over 35 years of experience in constructi­on management, transmissi­on line and substation operations, and maintenanc­e in the power sector. Before taking over this assignment, he was heading the commercial department of POWERGRID at its corporate centre in Gurgaon.

Anti-begging rally organised

Students of the Police DAV Public School, Patiala, were among a host of schools that participat­ed in an ‘anti-begging rally’ organised by the district administra­tion of the city. The drive was aimed at uplifting the destitute and curbing the practice of begging by them.

Mrs. Meena Thapar, principal, Police DAV Public School, congratula­ted the district administra­tion for initiating the campaign in an effort to make the erstwhile royal city beggar-free.

Getting ‘wordly’ wise

Words don’t come easy, and this was proven when the department of journalism and mass communicat­ion of Mata Gujri College held a ‘word mystery competitio­n’ for its students recently. The event saw enthusiast­ic participat­ion by the students of BAJMC-1st year.

Karuna Nidhi, Komalpreet Kaur and Gurpreet Singh bagged the first, second and third positions respective­ly. Director principal, Dr. Jatinder Singh Sidhu, congratula­ted the winners and encouraged them to be a part of such activities. Prof Reena Dhillon, head of the department, said that such competitio­ns enrich the students’ vocabulary and encourage them to learn something new.
