CHILD WAS IN CUSTODY OF HIS MOTHER SIMRANDEEP KAUR, 25, SINCE HER DIVORCE FROM THE ACCUSED

: A resident of Sonepat, Haryana, and his accomplice have been booked for allegedly abducting his one-year-old son on Monday.

The child was in the custody of his mother Simrandeep Kaur, 25, of Tajpur Road, since her divorce from the accused, Ramesh Verma , a few months ago.

In her complaint to the police, Simrandeep stated since she married Ramesh in 2010, he repeatedly beat her up under influence for dowry.

After bearing the domestic violence for years, Simrandeep secured a divorce and her son’s custody this year, and returned to live with her parents in Ludhiana.

She said on Monday, she went to visit her brother, while her son was home with her mother. Meanwhile, Ramesh and his friend, Kochu, reached her parents’ house and took her son out on the pretext of getting him a treat. But he did not return.

Her mother made several calls on his mobile number, but he did not answer, following which they lodged a police complaint.

Investigating officer assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Daljeet Singh said the child’s father came in a car, which he parked away from the house, and fled in it with the toddler.

A police team had been dispatched to Sonepat to arrest the accused and return the child to his mother, he added.

A case under Sections 365 (kidnapping or abducting with intent secretly and wrongfully to confine person) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered against the two accused.
