Two peddlers held, 1.5kg heroin seized

The rural police claimed to have busted a network of drug smugglers, with alleged connection with Pakistan, and arrested two Ferozepur residents, on Tuesday.

Around 1.5kg heroin was seized from their possession.

The accused are Mukhtiar Singh, 27, of Kamalwala village and Karnail Singh, 50, of Nihala Kilcha village, in Ferozepur district. During a press conference here, SSP Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said, Lohian SHO SI Surinder Kumar‘s team was conducting patrolling from Nall Nasirpur village towards Gidderpind­i. The team signalled two bike-borne persons to stop.

While frisking, 800gm heroin was recovered in a plastic bag from Mukhtiar and 700gm from Karnail. The police team took both into custody.

As per preliminar­y investigat­ion, the two use to purchase heroin from a Joginder Singh, 40, of Nihala Kilcha village in Ferozepur district, who allegedly gets the supply from Pakistan-based smugglers.

The two had purchased the consignmen­t for ₹16 lakh and were to sell it in Mehatpur, Nakodar, and Kapurthala district. The SSP said that both were in this business since a long time.

A case under Section 21 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotrop­ic Substances (NDPS) Act was registered at the Lohian police station. The two will be taken on police remand for questionin­g about Joginder Singh, who is absconding. HTC
