Shift our wards promptly, parents urge government

-

PATIALA : Even as the Punjab and Haryana high court on Friday ordered shifting of nearly 100 students of Pathankot-based Chintpurni Medical College and Hospital within two months, the students’ parents have demanded that their wards be shifted at the earliest so that their studies do not suffer.

The college student parents’ association held a meeting in Patiala on Monday, expressing concern over the students’ annual examination, which is scheduled in November.

They said the time of shifting may clash with the examination, which would hamper their prospects. The court has ordered shifting of 101 students enrolled in the 2014-2015 in the college’s batch to other colleges in the state. The students had moved the HC in April last year claiming their institution is “short of infrastructure”.

The college had argued that it had not been shut down and deficiencies, if any, would be worked on. But the court observed that college has had a “chequered history” and has had several run-ins with the authorities since it started in 2011.

The court observed that the students have the right to continue their education and asked the government to complete the exercise in two months. It also took note of the fact that the central government has barred the college for taking admissions for two years in 2017 and 2018 academic year.

Parents’ association president Sushil Garg said, “The exam form is be filled in September. We appeal the government to do the needful at the earliest.”
